It’s been a reasonable week apart from a day when we had some heavy rain and I was wishing I had mowed the lawn. However, Friday I did mow the lawn and may be for the last time this year. It’s all about tidying up and planting the last few plants that seem to have failed to plant themselves. Greenhouse to be cleared a bit more. Just waiting for the trees to shed the leaves ready for another load of leaf composting, though there are some on the ground any way.

…. it’s on with the week’s Six on Saturday

1) A Selection of annuals still doing good. Gaillardia and Coreopsis.
These have been giving a super splash of colour through the summer and into autumn. Along with the grasses in the background sets them off well.

2) Rosa, ‘Sweet Honey’.
This has featured before and it was when I received the plant in it’s pot I felt it wasn’t quite right for planting. I have now planted it and it’s racing away to flower before the end of the season. It has a nice scent and cluster-like large blooms of apricot. Also, read today that it was voted Rose of the Year 2020. I am liking it so much more than the three other roses I have. Could be my favourite, for now.

3) Hydrangea, ‘Vanille Fraise’.
This is the last cluster of blooms with any colour other than brown. Autumn taken the toll on this ever changing hydrangea. It’s been great to see it’s change through the months of colour from bright white to this autumnal shade.

4) Winter Jasmine.
These small pale yellow flowers are dotted about on the two or three plants that where planted against the fence some 15 years ago. As I had cut it back earlier in the year there is little chance of much flower this year. I am likely to destroy a fair amount the jasmine as I have two fence panels to replace but it will grow back.

5) Heuchera, Forever Purple.
This has to be a favourite heuchera that is going to need more room so the leaves from the hellebores will be cut back and the ever present bindweed, not spotted this at the time of taking the photo, will be eradicated too. the flowers somewhat insignificant but adds another dimension to this striking plant.

6) Brunnera, ‘Jack Frost’.
It’s name says it all because at the weather deteriorates and we get cold and frosty weather this will lose those silver and green-veined leaves and succumbed to Jack Frost. It’s hanging in there for now.
