Yes, it’s Autumn 🍂

That’s it for August and Summer 2020. It’s also autumn now as there’s a definite feel of damp and cold air. Overnight temperatures are forecast to fall. Rain has been very heavy over the last few days

1) Hydrangea, Vanille Fraise. This hydrangea has put on it autumnal colours. It’s second year has been something of a disappointment as there’s usually a lot of changes of hue from white to deep red in late autumn. This year it’s gone from white to pink to what we see now.

2) Cotoneaster salicifolius. Tremendous show of flowers and now berries from the cotoneasters. A feast for the birds.

3) Acer palmatum. Here’s a great Acer that’s put on a wonderful show during the spring and also throughout the summer. The bonus is large amounts of new growth. Hopefully it will start to make even more of a shapely shrub in the large pot that it’s been in for many years. I think the addition of homemade compost has made all the difference, maybe.

4) Rosa Pink. Again this is a rose that’s been putting on a great show this year. Although I’ve not paid it that much attention I’ll be giving it a good mulch. Then next year it will get a good feeding regularly. That is the plan!

5) Clematis Piilu. Weird how this clematis has behaved this year. A second flowering usually appears in the late summer but instead it its usual die off and I was about to give it the chop when I spotted the new growth, I left it alone and more growth appeared too. Who knows whether it will flower but can only hope for an autumn flowering, maybe.

6) Buddlejia Purple Chip. This buddlejia hasn’t been doing so well this year. Later flowering and not many flowers. It’s been fed well as usual. Just one of those things I guess. It could be I cut it back too hard which could mean, as long as I’m not over top with the secateurs, there will be a better show next year. Unless it’s going to be a very late bloomer.
